Our children are taught wrong.
What a strange perception of the world we give them.
"You are absolutely and totally unique. There is nothing and nobody else like you. You are made in the image of [REDACTED-DEITY 86]."
The human being. So peculiar. You will never find any one human alike, in a hundred billion galaxies.
There is perhaps no other being so different... yet... so alike.
We are so blinded by ourselves.
We think too individually. Every single one of us is the main character. Everyone else is a side character that you can interact with, buy from, steal from, love, hate, lie to, and spit on.
Only humans, I tell you. Only humans.
These walls we have built between ourselves, these barries that keep us apart, are ruining us.
Most of you reading this, and me, we were not alive to see a project on the behalf of our entire being. A feat so monumental that it impacted the future of our species forever.
Our lives have been plagued with the constant reminders of hate and war.
There is something I would like to share with you. It is called "The Overview Effect".
It is described as an overwhelming sense of unity felt by astronauts while looking down upon the Earth from space. The view of the Earth as a whole, not as a square divided upon petty lines on a map, is enough to break someone. Break them instantly. There is no escaping this feeling, no matter how hard you try. Something deep inside of us wells up, and is let go. Something we didn't know we had. Finally seeing our planet for the fragile marble that it is has to be a life-changing experience.
These are precarious times. So too were the times precarious during the many plagues, during the age of exploration, and during the time when our small, fragile species set foot on their planet's secondary celestial body. Today, we face a critical crossroads in our species' history. What we do in the next 20-30 years will impact the lives of our descendants for the next 500-1000 years. Our parents and grandparents were unable to pass down a stable planet for us to reside upon. We need to take up their cross, and fix their mistakes. This should and will be our great accomplishment. We haven't given up yet. Humans don't give up. Giving up is not in us. It is in nobody. Life itself doesn't give up. There is a reason life is alive. No matter what the intelligence level, it has an intrisic value to it. A will and a want to be different. But, when this will and want blinds us, rarely do we come to the realization that we are more alike than different. Every human. Every plant. Every insect, bird, and mammal. Same building blocks. Same energy. It is not spiritual or supernatural energy. It is the need to resist entropy, the complete absence of time, being, and order. It is not due to the free will or intelligence of the organism, but instead the instrisic property of the universe, the need to be alive. To breathe, to move.
I am often questioned about the purpose of this site. My excuse every time is a "feelings" or "memories" dump. But I believe it is now more than that. You see, there is something that makes us human. The Overview Effect proves this. An animal wouldn't care if it saw the Earth from space. It would probably just be thinking about where the hell it is. Something unique makes us who we are. I've struggled to put my finger on it. These passages I have transcribed is me trying to put this mysterious thing we possess into words. Perhaps I'll find out someday. Until then, the cycle of The Snow will continue, with none to stop it. But that's alright. There is nothing to be afraid of.
